Chichester & Bognor B v Cosham B
The B Team are involved in another hard fought match with the score standing at 3-2 in our favour and one game playing on. Ray Hunt and John Kalber secured excellent wins while Cliff Cropp and Ray Williams gained draws for the three points.
Cosham C v Chichester & Bognor C
The C Team suffered a heavy 4½-1½ defeat to a very strong Cosham C team being outgraded on all six boards. The 1½ points were scored with draws from Mick Plumb, John Kalber and Philip Wake. However, the result might have been different with Andy Tate playing really well to get himself into a very strong position when a slight error led to the loss of a piece and the loss of the game. At the same time Michael Spence seemed to be heading for a draw when a misjudgment cost him his game, John Kalber had two connected pawns against just the King when he ran out of time, Mick Plumb was unable to exploit the advantage of being a pawn up in the endgame and Philip Wake, although having the more active pieces, was unable to turn this into a winning advantage.

Chichester & Bognor A v Fareham A
The A Team are involved in a very hard fought match against Fareham A. The score at the moment is 2½-2½ with just Bill McDougall’s game against Keith Gregory to complete. Although Bill is a pawn up, the position is still unclear. The points so far have come from a win by Jamie Wilson and draws from Andrew McDougall, Ian Judd and Cliff Cropp.
Chichester & Bognor B v Fareham B
The B Team gained their second win of the season with an excellent 3½-2½ victory over Fareham B. Ray Williams and John Kalber won their games both with really good clinical finishes. Steve Smith, Keith Davies and Ray Hunt each gained draws to make up the 3½ points. Cliff Cropp was very unlucky, in the remaining game on board one, not to gain a draw with just a slight miscalculation at the end after some 70 moves.

Emsworth B v Chichester & Bognor B
The Chichester & Bognor B team got their Portsmouth League Division 2 campaign off to a good start with a 4-2 win over Emsworth B.
However, the evening began on a sombre note with the news of the sudden death, that morning, of Emsworth stalwart Brian Smith who was due to play in the match. Before the match began a one minute silence was held in Brian’s memory.
For the record the B team’s four points came from wins from Mick Plumb, Philip Wake and Andrew Keil with draws from Cliff Cropp and Ray Hunt.

Points of interest from the club AGM held on Wednesday 7th September.
It was agreed that the Annual club membership fee should remain at £15.
We would, jointly with Bognor & Arun, once again enter three teams in the Portsmouth League, one in each of its three divisions and we would enter just one team in the Cole Cup. The team captains are as follows:
A Team – Steve Smith
B Team – Mick Plumb
C Team – Michael Spence
Cole Cup – Andrew McDougall
The three internal club competitions would be run along the same lines as before with a double round for the Club Championship and a single round for the under 130. It was agreed on just a few minor modifications to the Handicap Competition.
